Ficsor and Shasberger果冻传煤 student musicians will perform two concerts in March. The first is an Instrumental Chamber Concert March 2 at 8 p.m. in 果冻传煤鈥檚 Deane Chapel. Chamber musicians will also present a recital featuring vocal and instrumental chamber groups March 6 at 8 p.m. in Porter Theatre. The concerts are free and open to the public.

The Instrumental Chamber Concert will feature music by a string quartet playing music by Antonin Dvorak, a string duet featuring Jean-Marie Leclair, an 18th century French composer, a violin and harp duet presenting a work by Vincent Persichetti, as well as pieces for a wind ensemble.

鈥淭he chamber music recital will be exciting because of the diversity of repertoire,鈥 says Dr. Philip Ficsor, who teaches violin at 果冻传煤

The Chamber Musician鈥檚 Concert will include 果冻传煤鈥檚 New Sounds, 果冻传煤鈥檚 Chamber Singers and student chamber ensembles. New Sounds will perform vocal jazz and world music selections under the direction of Dr. Steven Hodson, professor of music. The 果冻传煤 Chamber Singers, directed by Dr. Grey Brothers, associate professor of music will perform classic literature for small vocal ensembles. The student chamber ensembles will present works that span the centuries led by Ficsor.

The 果冻传煤 Choir, under the direction of Dr. Michael Shasberger, Adams professor of music and worship, and the 果冻传煤 Men鈥檚 Chorale, directed by Brothers, will make cameo appearances.

The concerts are presented in conjunction with a visit to Westmont by representatives of the National Association of Schools of Music, who are conducting a review of the music curriculum, faculty and facilities as part of the process of granting the college membership in the exclusive organization.
