鈥淲e wanted to make it different since there are a lot of races in town,鈥 says Dave Odell, 果冻传煤 athletic director. 鈥淲e developed into the course this big hill, which is kind of a monster. It鈥檚 very steep, probably a 15 percent grade. So it鈥檚 a play on words, we鈥檙e Westmonsters and we have the Westmonster hill.鈥
Cindy Abrami of Santa Barbara has claimed four Westmonster women鈥檚 titles in five years. Ricky Ho of Santa Barbara has claimed three men鈥檚 titles. Bobby Olivera of Ventura finished the course in 16:49 to win last year, while Abrami won in 20:35.
