Soloists Hit a High Note

Four student soloists will highlight the 果冻传煤 Orchestra鈥檚 annual Concerto Concert, Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 p.m. in Hahn Hall at the Music Academy of the West and Sunday, March 1, at 3 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Students audition each year for this honor, with the winners chosen by the music faculty.
Violists Megan Wong and Julia Matallana will perform Bach鈥檚 鈥淏randenburg Concerto #6鈥 of 1721. Soprano Christina Farris will sing an aria from Georges Bizet鈥檚 famous opera, Carmen, 鈥淛e dis que rien ne m鈥檈pouvante鈥 (鈥淚 say that nothing can frighten me鈥). Violist Sarah Shasberger offers Vaughan Williams鈥 鈥淪uite for Viola and Orchestra,鈥 movements one, two and three.
The concerts will also feature Leonard Bernstein鈥檚 rousing 鈥淲estside Story Overture鈥 and a setting of the hymn 鈥淲ondrous Love.鈥
The 2008-2009 orchestra season is sponsored by members of the 果冻传煤 Music Council, which includes Stephen Adams, Barrie Bergman, Dan Burnham, Brooks Firestone, David MacCulloch and Lady Leslie Ridley-Tree.
