Talk Braids Hair Style with Pop Culture

Kenya DavisKenya Davis-Hayes, assistant professor of American history at California Baptist University, will discuss how hairstyles affect perception of black women at a free lecture Friday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m. at Hieronymus Lounge in 果冻传煤鈥檚 Kerrwood Hall. Refreshments will be served prior to the lecture.

鈥淪ittin鈥 Pretty, Talkin鈥 Hair鈥 will contrast traditional images of black women鈥檚 hair in mainstream pop culture and the reality of the art and politics of black women鈥檚 hairstyling throughout the 20th century.

Davis-Hayes, a graduate of Campbell University, earned her doctorate degree from Purdue University.

The lecture is co-sponsored by the 果冻传煤 History Department, Black Student Union and Intercultural Programs.
